resident of the Columbus Community School District. Citizens wishing to present oral or written petitions to the board may do so at the time they
are given to speak. However, the board will only receive the petitions and/or listen to the citizens. The board will take no action directly
following the presentation, but rather listen with a concerned attitude. The Board President has the discretion to limit the amount of time set
aside for public participation. If the pressures of business or other circumstances dictate, the Board President may decide to set aside this
practice until another meeting. (Board Policy 213)

Congratulations to Ariana Vergara, Ryan Coil, and Juan Chairez for being selected to the Southeast Iowa Senior All Star Game at Burlington, Notre Dame. On March 15th, the three Wildcats will represent Columbus on the Court. The girls' game starts at 5 pm, and the boys' game follows.




Congratulations to Lily Coil for being selected for the Iowa Girls Coaches Association's Larry Niemeyer Senior Game. The game will be held March 15th at 2:15 PM in the Cedar Falls High School Gymnasium.


Starting Monday March 10th, dirt work will start on the athletic field. Equipment will be entering and exiting through the pool parking lot. Please use caution when walking or driving on Springer Ave. After dirt work is complete, it is VERY important that there is no foot traffic on the athletic field as it will be seeded and going through the grow in process. We ask that pedestrians walking the track stay clear of the area highlighted in red to the west of the visitor’s side bleachers. Work is not expected to be complete until around the middle of May. Thank you for your cooperation during this time.


Parent Teacher Conferences


Parent Teacher Conferences are Tuesday, March 11th and Thursday, March 13th. On March 11th & 13th we will dismiss at 1:30. On Wednesday, March 12th we will go to school all day and dismiss at 3:30. There will be no school on Friday, March 14th.

Tonight's high school dance (Spring Fling) has been postponed until tomorrow night, Saturday, March 8th from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The dance will be held at the Roundy Elementary cafeteria.

This evening, after students had been dismissed, the fire alarms at the high school detected a small fire in the kitchen. The fire was quickly extinguished, and local fire departments and law enforcement responded promptly to ensure the safety of the building. We are grateful to our first responders for their quick action. There is minimal physical damage, and most importantly, no one was hurt. School will continue as scheduled. Thank you for your support, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

The Spring Fling Dance has been moved to Roundy Elementary for tonight. It will start at 8:00-11:00pm for tonight March 8th.

The Spring Fling dance is cancelled for tomorrow Saturday, March 8th.

Thursday, March 6th at 6 PM. The boys basketball team will hold their end of season awards banquet. 9th and 10th graders are asked to bring a main dish and utensils. 11th and 12th graders are in charge of desserts and drinks.


The speech team had an outstanding day on Saturday at the district speech contest. Of the 8 performance entries, all 8 of them earned a 1 rating and will advance to the state contest on March 15th. Henry Hingst and Dawson Clark advanced in spontaneous speaking, with Dawson also earning a 1 in radio news announcing. Moving onto state in solo musical theatre are Cade Storm and Elias Gerling-Morris. Cade also advanced in original oratory, along with Jocelyn Hernandez who will perform her public address at state contest as well. This marks the first time in the past decade that all Columbus individual event entries were able to earn a 1 rating at district contest advancing them to state competition! Congratulations Columbus speech team!

Columbus Girls' Basketball will hold its end-of-season banquet for players and their families on Tuesday, March 4, at 6 p.m. in the student center.
